Performance Analyst Intern

StepOut is a football-tech ecosystem that converts every match into actionable performance insights for players, academies and clubs. We work across grassroots to pro levels and deliver match reports, player dashboards and tactical visualisations that coaches can actually use. This is a non-technical, football-centric role. As a Football Analyst Intern you will be responsible for collecting match data, tagging events, and creating clear, coach-ready visualizations and reports. No software engineering or coding required - instead we want people who live and breathe football and can translate what happens on the pitch into meaningful numbers and narratives.

Primary:

• Match data collection & tagging: Watch match/video footage and tag events (passes, shots, duels, positions, set-pieces) with high accuracy and consistency.
• Video annotation & clip curation: Create short video clips for coaches and players highlighting tactical patterns or individual actions.
• Data cleaning & validation: Ensure datasets are complete, accurate and consistent for downstream analysis.

Secondary (Advanced):

• Tactical analysis: Translate data into tactical observations - team shape, transition patterns, pressing triggers, strengths/weaknesses.
• Operational tasks: Maintain match logs, update player databases, support matchday logistics and video capture where needed.

• Clean, timely match datasets with <2% tagging error rate.
• Reliable match clip packages delivered within agreed SLAs.
• Insightful visual reports that coaches can take action immediately.
• Positive feedback from coaches/scouts on usability and clarity.

We want football fanatics, not coders. Candidates must demonstrate:

• Absolute passion for football - tactical curiosity and match sense (non-negotiable).
• Strong attention to detail and methodical work habits.
• Good written & verbal communication - able to explain data to non-technical audiences (coaches/players).
• Comfortable learning new software (annotation tools, dashboards) quickly.
• Availability to attend matches or review footage outside regular hours when required.
• Currently pursuing or holding a degree in: Sports Science, Sports Management, Commerce, Arts, Data Science (non-IT), or any non-engineering discipline.
• Coaches, ex-players, scouting/academy staff, or graduates from sports programs are strongly encouraged to apply.

• Basic Excel / Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, simple formulas).
• Experience with video tagging tools (Nacsport, LongoMatch, SportsCode, or similar).
• Basic familiarity with Google Sheets.
• Prior exposure to club/academy coaching or matchday operations.

• Hands-on exposure to performance analysis used by clubs and academies.
• Practical training in match tagging, video analysis and sports visualisation.
• Mentor-ship from senior analysts and direct interaction with coaches.
